About Maria Bailey

I am friendly, reliable and professional. I love the outdoors; especially the beach, travel, musical theatre and live music. My family is my world. I am a former lecturer and a published author. I am an independent civil celebrant, trained by the International College of Professional Celebrants. I am based in Durham, in North East England. I have spent part of the year in Spain for many years, and have a love of Spanish culture. I speak Spanish (to a reasonable level) and communicate well in British Sign Language. I am very much a people-person and love working with families and clients to create unique, very personal ceremonies. I love poetry and writing and get a real buzz from creating ceremonies, by listening closely to my clients.

I am quite traditional, so I adore family oriented ceremonies, and love to suggest the inclusion of mini rituals, to make the ceremony extra special, e.g. unity candle, sand ceremony or hand-fasting. Small and intimate is my preference, but I am happy to be guided by my clients into developing the perfect ceremony for them, truly unique.

I am a perfectionist and will not be happy until my clients approve of what I have created. Second best is just not good enough.

Maria is just amazing

Maria was absolutely amazing.

We chose her when we found out our venue no longer had a wedding licence but recommended that we could still get married there using a celebrant.

When I started looking I couldn’t see anyone I thought would be a good fit with us until I came across Maria.

From the moment we met with her we knew she was the one we wanted to do our wedding.

She got to know us and her suggestions were exactly what we wanted, from our first meeting. We were so excited from the start. She kept in contact throughout the preparations and sent us every bit of amendment she had made.

Choosing Maria was the best decision we made.

Granda’s Funeral

On behalf of myself and my family I would like to say thank you to Maria for being our celebrant when we said goodbye to my Granda last week. From the word go she was helpful, organised, sympathetic and inspiring. I knew that we didn’t want an impersonal service and Maria agreed totally reminding me that ‘we only get one shot at this, we should make it good!’ But she took all of the hassle from us and delivered a brilliant, heart warming and extremely personal eulogy. The time and care that she puts into researching and writing what will be said on the day really shows, and makes the day that little bit more uplifting.
